*39 Learn to Maintain Your Sewing Machine

This seemed like an over powering task but I purchased a Brother 9135 Fancy Stitch sewing machine in September 2014.  I have made this a goal to constantly clean, and be sure that there isn't a bedrock of thread lint.

So how have I done?

Well, I have been doing a huge amount of sewing on 3 Memory Quilts made from Mum's PJ.  Actually make that 4:
1: Disappearing 9 patch for Roger
2: Row By Row on a diagonal for Heather (who requested the quilt right after Mum's funeral
3: A little cuddle quilt for Bailey (Mum's beloved pet, or should I say Shadow)
4: For myself to eventually go to Emily, I am making blocks using strips of material of Mum's PJs, Strips from my own use previously, and even some strips from Burp Bibs that Emily made for a friend's first baby girl.

So:::::::::::: I decided seeing as I've been sewing almost non-stop on these quilts and other quilt projects it was time to take a look.  This date was October 27th....almost one month after purchasing the Little Brother.

Well:::::::::: did I find enough thread lint that I could almost not see the bottom of the internal workings of the machine. Who would have guessed this quickly it would become an almost solid mass of lint.

Out came the instruction booklet, screw driver, pipe cleaners, various brushes, little lint brushes and a piece of old quilt batt. The best ever for wiping lint off my various pieces of equipment and getting the job done.

Yes, this will be a fun thing to do every week or two depending on the load of sewing I hope to do.  I am glad that I saw this item #39 so that I could, in fact, learn how to maintain my sewing machine and thereby give it a much longer life for years to come.
