I have been teaching a group of ladies who are really interested in embellishing. We had this as one of our first lessons. Here is the piece I shown them as an example. The girls learned to use this blanket stitch for sewing on labels, and the lesson included several styles, not just the plain blanket stitch.
Samples of Blanket Stitch variations:
top: long and short blanket stitch
middle: long stitch with french knot on bottom and across top a stitch spreading the thread in different patterns
bottom: reverse long and short blanket stitch across seam
